more KARL

By Giovanna added on Tue, 10/06/2009 - 5:28pm

We’re not so into the whole country/farm/barnyard scene. A roll in the hay… sure, but that’s pretty much where it ends. For Karl though we’d gladly rake, pitch and whatever else it is you do with hay if it got us a Chanel discount. In fact we’d camp out in his Grand Palais housed barn he created for a week in return for the stunning black and white gown we will be dreaming of for weeks. And apparently the classic Chanel suit now comes with a mini skirt, which needless to say, we support. Check out some of our favorite looks from the show below.

We don’t even hate clogs when Karl does them. Seriously, these are kind of cute right? And we fully expect to see Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson stumbling around in the very soon. Will you be sporting clogs come spring? Yes? No? Only if they’re Chanel?

Paris Part Deux

By Giovanna added on Mon, 10/05/2009 - 5:32pm

There is no way we were going to let Karl’s show pass with out comment. Never afraid to show some leg, we like the influx of shorts. Of course’s Karl’s show was almost all black and white which we love, especially the super hot little white dresses. Also loved the flat sandals the girls were sporting. When can we get our hands on those?

Giambattista Valli sent out some serious statement dresses that would definitely be memorable in a red carpet setting, but maybe too high fashion for US Weekly’s best dressed list. We can’t wait to see what fashion risk takers will be the first to appear in these. We’re thinking Rihanna in the short white strapless.

On to Paris

By Giovanna added on Fri, 10/02/2009 - 3:29pm

Despite our Italian roots, we have to admit Paris fashion week really trumps them all. It’s just getting started but we are already dying for what we’ve seen from Balenciaga and Balmain.

Starting with the coolest hoodies we’ve ever seen and continuing with amazing patchwork pants, we loved pretty much everything from Balenciaga’s surprisingly wearable runway show. Apparently it’s all about the vest. We know what we’ll be stocking up on come spring.

It is impossible not to like a designer with such a love of sequins. And despite the overwhelming number of them, we again find Christophe Decarnin’s collection somehow practical. Maybe’s it’s the perfectly cut coats that convince us sparkling silver pants are a good idea for day? You may disagree about the bedazzling, but there is no arguing that Balmain continues to deliver insanely hot dresses. We can’t wait to see these mini’s on our favorite celebs.

Fresh From Italy

By Giovanna added on Wed, 09/30/2009 - 5:32pm

Sorry, we don’t have any parmesan for you but we do have some highlights from the Milan shows. Check out what’s new from our fave Italians.

We couldn’t get enough of Emporio Armani’s cool black and white looks. So clean and modern and so easy to replicate in real life. We were sold on the round glasses too. They’ll be on the top of our spring wish list.

As always, Dolce & Gabbana brought out some serious sexiness and there were several dresses that caught our eye, the first being the tiny nude strapless number. We were also smitten with their bright floral prints. The corsets look straight out of a ‘90s music video, and we mean that in the best way possible. And of course it wouldn’t be Dolce & Gabbana without some animal print, this year the boys brought it in red.

Moschino never fails with the playful prints, and this year was no different, but we loved the tailored denim dresses too. So chic!

Right and Wrong on the Emmy Red Carpet

By Giovanna added on Mon, 09/28/2009 - 5:00pm

Don’t worry we weren’t going to let the Emmy red carpet pass with out comment. But now that they were a week ago we have forgotten about half the dresses, a clear sign that the red carpet was a tad boring this year. However, there are too looks that we have not forgotten. They both happen to be Versace. No surprise as this is a long standing Gomatta fave and we often imagine ourselves strolling the red carpet in a Versace gown, usually on the arm of George Clooney. However, we can only praise on of these red carpet looks. The other has left us rather frustrated.

Let's start with the good. Our red carpet winner for this years Emmy is no question, January Jones. The white strapless gown is INSANE. We are obsessed. The structured corset top is amazing and we love it with the flowing skirt. Pulled back hair and simple jewelry complete the look perfectly. Shoes are hot too. A+

And now for the bad. As religious Gossip Girl watchers, we love Blake Lively and generally love her style, but we can don’t get behind this look. She doesn’t look bad but something about the bright red, plunging v-neck, super high slit, open back combo is just so desperate. Blake is young and hot and will look so in almost anything. In this dress she is trying way too hard. Plus, the ponytail makes her look like some sort of alien school girl.

The most upsetting part about this though is that she wore a similarly slutty number to the Met Costume Institute gala this year – plunging v-neck, side slit, and open back and slicked back pony all included. It was also Versace. So now she’s not only become desperate but also boring. We pray that she is not adopting this as her signature look.

Maybe we’re wrong. What do you think? Is Blake looking desperate or divine?

More Fashion Week Raves and Faves

By Giovanna added on Wed, 09/16/2009 - 3:45pm

Brian Reyes always seems to mix uptown polish and downtown cool in a way that makes all his clothes undeniably appealing and super wearable. We love the nod to denim this season with crisp tailored skirts and shorts. But he hasn’t neglected the party girl in us either. We might have to throw ourselves a little fete so we have an excuse to buy his pretty flowing frocks. The Rorschach like prints are great too. What do we see? A Brian Reyes purchase in our future.

Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy have become the darlings of the fashion world with their flawless construction and futuristic visions and their latest collection will certainly not disappoint their fans. Last season’s pretty pastels have been replaced with grungy plaids and scorched silks. While the Mulleavy girl’s designs may not read as red carpet ready we look forward to seeing some of fashion’s risk taking femme’s sporting them with style.

Fashion Week Faves

By Giovanna added on Mon, 09/14/2009 - 2:51pm

We’ve always been fans of LA girl Jenni Kayne’s namesake line. Her models always look impossible cool and this year was no different. Note the fab shoes. We’re loving the loads of black eyeliner too.

Alexander Wang is another Gomatta fave and while we were a little worried when we heard the inspiration for the spring line was football, an American pastime we happily ignore, we were quite pleased with the result. The amazing leather jacket and relaxed slouchy pants are already on our wish list and maybe it's just nostalgia but we love the varsity jacket.

Vena Cava didn’t disappoint either. With more of their always pretty dresses and super wearable separates they kept things clean and with some serious collaborators for their accessories – Tiffany bangles, Persol shades, and Robert Clergerie shoes – rather classy.

Seriously Tyra?

By Giovanna added on Wed, 09/09/2009 - 3:17pm

We love fall as much for the new trashy TV we get to watch as for the cool cold weather gear we get to sport so we just wanted to remind you that America’s Next Top Model Cycle 13 kicks off tonight with a two hour premiere. And what craziness will Tyra be bringing to the show this year? Well it seems this season is exclusively reserved for girls under 5’7”. Yes, under. Tyra claims they will be continuing down the path that Kate Moss blazed for short beautiful girls everywhere. Hmm… excuse us for being a bit skeptical but Miss Kate is a 5’7”, no less. And we haven’t actually seen too much action out of the past winners who meet the standard runway requirements so we have serious doubts that Tyra and her team will be able pull a true top model out of this bunch. A cute catalogue model perhaps, but honestly is that search worthy of primetime? We’re not so sure. Has Tyra just given up now that she has a talk show to keep her busy? Check out the hopefuls here and see if you think any of them have what it takes to give Kate a run for her money.

Forbes has just released their list of 2009’s most powerful fashion editors and not shockingly, Anna tops the list. Apparently the fact that Prada takes advice from her gives her a leg up. Click here to see how Forbes calculates the editors’ influence and who else made the top ten. Speaking of… what is your favorite fashion mag Gomattas??

And in case and of you LA Gomatta’s need reminding – The September Issue opens here this Friday.
