Made for us!

By Giovanna added on Mon, 08/24/2009 - 10:49am

It seems Alexander McQueen is reading our minds these days. We recently raved about the Faithful clutch with attached glove and now we’re even more smitten with the Knuckle Duster clutch. Red leather with blinged out brass knuckles built right in. What could be more Gomatta than that?! Uncle Vinny will be soooo jealous.

Project Runway Returns!

Project Runway is Back!

I passed local boy Jeffrey Sebelia on my way back from lunch today and the sight of his handlebar mustache reminded me that Project Runway returns tomorrow! Finally! Season 6 kicks off at 10pm and after months of stalls while with switch to Lifetime was ironed out all of us at Gomatta Girls are dying for some sewing machine drama. Luckily Lifetime is helping us out with an entire night of Runway fun, starting with an all-star challenge featuring our boy Jeffrey (my all time favorite) and seven other PR vets we adore. Take a minute to survey this season’s designers and make some snap predictions. We are especially pumped for the West Coast love this round. The show was filmed in downtown LA, just steps from our fashion district offices. Clearly we will be following this season as obsessively as ever so check back for regular updates on the Gomatta’s take on the action. We are obviously anxiously awaiting the return of Nina Garcia’s endless wisdom as well (see below).

Words of Wisdom

By Giovanna added on Tue, 08/18/2009 - 12:54pm

Our favorite fashion editor Nina Garcia (sorry Anna, but she has better hair) is back with the third in her series of fabulous fashion tomes. Following up The Little Black Book of Style and The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own, Nina is brings us The Style Strategy: A Less-Is-More Approach to Staying Chic and Shopping Smart filled with more timeless sartorial wisdom that is all too useful right now. The new little gold book comes out on August 25th, and we’ve of course already pre-ordered a copy. Just click here to get your own.

Currently Coveting

We’re always bringing you insane steals (thank Uncle Sal!) but sometimes we need a splurge and right now we have our eye on the Elizabeth and James “Jazz” pumps. In soft ruched leather, with a pointy toe and a 4.5” heel (those Olsens always give us a super tall heel) the real secret of these pumps is hidden in the back. Leather cover buttons run the length of the heel for a look that waivers between romantic Victorian and modern sexy. The ivory colored “bone” leather is definitely our favorite. We actually think they’d make great wedding shoes but we won’t be saving them for special occasions.

Though it was Theresa, that was pushing her daughters into the limelight Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey, it is controversial Danielle Staub (yes the one in the book) who will have an offspring in the biz! Danielle’s daughter, has been signed to IMG models, who also happen to represent Gisele, Heidi and Kate (as in Bundchen, Klum and Moss). She always seemed very sharp and cute on the show so she clearly didn’t take after her mother. We just had to give her a Gomatta shout-out. Make Jersey proud!

Not To Be Missed: Anna Wintour on Letterman!

By Bianca added on Thu, 08/13/2009 - 10:49pm

Madame Wintour aka The Ice Queen, is scheduled to grace us mere mortals by making an appearance on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman. (We’ve actually had the surreal experience of sitting in plain view of her at a fashion show, a memory we will soon not forget!) Her movie --the Vogue documentary- The September Issue is premiering next Wednesday. By the looks of the impressive guest list, it is obvious many are awaiting this movie! Ooh is that a Philip Lim, we see on the list? Oh even “Sean Combs” dropped his otherwise more famous moniker, to attend this premiere. Perhaps as a sign of respect? More importantly though…During her appearance, will she crack a smile? Will David be able to defrost her? Will there be awkward silences? Only one way to find out: Monday, August 24th tune in to Letterman!

Not Too Shabby, Megan Fox!

Now this girl is known for practically being sex on a stick. Call her what you will, but you can’t deny her hotness factor is turned up all the way, all the time! Considering she’s made her name capitalizing –and practically exhausting- the sex symbol role, we’ve never paid much attention to her style of dress. As of late, we have noticed though that Ms. Fox has been a tad less foxy and a bit more chic (relatively speaking ‘course) with her style. Surely her stylist is responsible for this, so we wanna say kudos to you! At this past weekend’s Teen Choice Awards, she actually even managed to look down-right stylish. Now if we can just forget about that weird alien slicked-back do, her style resume is definitely on the rise!

Rachel Rachel Roy has arrived (arrived)!

By Bianca added on Tue, 08/11/2009 - 8:37pm

Back in April, when it was announced Rachel Roy (of Rachel Roy fame, kidding!) was to create a diffusion line for Macy’s we were intrigued. The gorgeous designer creates equally gorgeous clothes. Having that innate talent to mix uptown with downtown (perhaps she got a little street cred influence from soon-to-be ex-husband Damon Dash), her clothes have thus far only been available through high-end retailers. Well that’s no fun! Rachel Roy’s diffusion line, aptly named Rachel Rachel Roy, finally hit the racks of Macy’s this week. Included are sportswear, footwear, jewelry and handbags, which all retail below the $250 mark. And maybe, just maybe this lends Macy’s a little cool street cred as well. Our fave by far, is the updated jumpsuit, which retails at a totally snag-worthy $119. Thanks Rachel!

Back to School Cool

By Giovanna added on Thu, 08/06/2009 - 8:40am

I don’t remember there being any hip backpack options when I was in school. I think I had the same L.L.Bean model for years before upgrading to a bright yellow North Face I thought was the height of coolness. To bad my commute to school didn’t involve any repelling.

With the release of Rick Owens new DRKSHDW collection for Eastpak, I’m a little jealous of today’s high schoolers and I am beginning to think I might actually sport a backpack around the city, voluntarily, just because it looks cool. All 11 styles in the collection come in a stone washed coated nylon that leaves them with a super soft, worn in look. The bags also eschew regular stitching in favor of a high-tech welding technique. Fancy. In shades of gray, the collection has a clean, minimal look, that makes them very urban appropriate. We think they are definitely giving Prada’s signature nylon bags a run for their money. What do you think?

Next For Neon

By Giovanna added on Wed, 08/05/2009 - 3:06pm

Raise your hand if you owned Hypercolor jeans? And loved them? Us too! Hypercolor was sooooo ’80s, but with neon making such a strong comeback these days (just check the fall runways for confirmation) we’ve been wondering if anyone would be brave enough to resurrect Hypercolor. Not yet it seems, but Diesel has stepped up with some glow in the dark clothing that is a very close second. Available this fall, Diesel’s glowing collection is sure to get you noticed when the lights go down. At least no one will miss out on your killer dance moves. Thanks Diesel!
